The turning position for New Freedom arrived in 1959 when Interstate 83 handed via neighboring Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania. The opening of the freeway bit by bit brought about a lot of the freight traffic along the railroad being transferred to trucks. New industries ended up now established in Shrewsbury and New Freedom began to return to its roots.
